Grasses

Grasses can add highlights, movement, color, and evergreen areas to your garden. The seed heads are elegant in spring and fall (birds appreciate this), and most are hardy clumpers.

We have new varieties every year and encourage using them as focal points and groundcovers. Grasses are irreplaceable for texture, the hallmark of a complete landscape- We love grasses!

  • Black Mondo Grass (Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens')
Deep black-purple blades with green at the base; great for borders and contrast.

  • Japanese Forest Grass (Hakonechloa macra, likely ‘Aureola’)
Graceful arching gold-and-green foliage; perfect for part shade.

  • Carex elata ‘Bowles Golden’
Chartreuse blades that glow in moist soil or part shade; standout in shady beds.

  • Blue Dune Lyme Grass (Leymus arenarius)
Rigid, upright silver-blue foliage; ideal for full sun and coastal feel.

  • Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum)
