Boxwood

 

While most of our 7,000 boxwoods are growing for the future, we have hundreds for sale, ranging in size from 5 to 50 gallons. Many of them are interesting topiaries. The variety of our boxwoods permits the customer to shop for a six-foot tall hedge or miniature Morris Midgets for bonsai collections.

Buxus microphylla ‘John Baldwin’

Zone: 7-9

Size: 10’ x 3.5’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

Shiny leaves and an upright habit make this a great development in hedges.

Perfect for screen or neat pairs.

 

 

 

Buxus microphylla ‘Kingsville’

Zone: 7-9

Size: 6-12” x 18”

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

This rare boxwood is the smallest available. Deep green leaves bronze slightly in the winter.

It makes a fabulous tiny accent plant and a fine bonsai.

Buxus microphylla ‘Morris Dwarf’

Zone: 7-9

Size: 1½ ’ x 4’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

A true dwarf with normal sized leaves, this makes an excellent

choice for the herb knot or use as a container plant.

Buxus microphylla ‘Morris Midget’

Zone: 7-9

Size: 1’ x 3’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

A very small boxwood with a regular rounded habit needing no clipping.

Perfect as a tiny knot, bonsai, or pot specimen.

Zone: 6-9

Faulkners grow slowly, a nice plant for a medium specimen ball or a medium hedge.

Conditions: Light sun/Part shade

More tolerant of alkaline soil and drier conditions than English boxwood. It has looser foliage

and is a lively light green. Excellent informal hedge.

Buxus microphylla var. japonica ‘Green Beauty’

Size: 6’ x 5’

Conditions : Sun/Part sun

Excellent compact shrub for even hedges. Retains its dark green color even in the coldest of winters

and hottest summers. Beautiful left natural or pruned.

Petit leaves with a neat ruffly appearance. Great for edging or as a potted plant.

A good choice for rustic hedging. Stays a deep green color all winter long.

Stiff branching holds up well in snow and ice. Acceptable for a big cloud hedge.

Size: 6’-25’ x 4’-7’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

With dense medium green foliage. Common English box is well-suited to hard pruning for

hedges and topiary. Excellent container plant. Grows 4” to 6” a year.

Buxus sempervirens ‘Aureo-Pendula’

Zone: 6-9

Size: 5’ x 4’

Conditions: Light sun/Part shade

This lovely and unusual box has weeping branches and leaves dabbed with creamy yellow.

Lovely as a specimen or gentle hedge.

Buxus sempervirens ‘Blauer Heinz’

Zone: 6-9

Size: 1.5’ x 1.5’

Conditions: Sun/Shade

Year round evergreen foliage. Dwarf boxwood with blue green foliage. Deep Color remains true

even in shade. Ideal for hedging, borders, sidewalks, or mixing with flowers.

Buxus sempervirens ‘Elegantissima’

Size: 7’ x 4’

Conditions: Part Shade/Shade

Stunning variegation lights up your garden.

Perfect to stand alone, in pairs, or as a fabulous grouping.

Buxus sempervirens ‘Graham Blandy’

Zone: 6-9

Size: 9’ x 1.5’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

One of the aristocrats of hedging and topiary. The narrow upright habit makes it an especially

useful boxwood.  Only 1.5’ wide.

Buxus sempervirens ‘Salicifolia Elata’

Zone: 6-9

Size: 8’ x 5’ we think, a new cultivar

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

First noticed in 1872. This boxwood wraps very gracefully. Good as a specimen or hedge.

Buxus sempervirens ‘Suffruticosa’

Zone: 6-9

Size: 4’ x 3’

Conditions : Sun/Part sun

The English edging box, it’s rarely seen more than 3’ tall. Use for borders and topiaries.

It has bright green foliage. Note the small balls.

Buxus sempervirens ‘Vardar Valley’

Zone: 6-9

Size : 4’-7’ x 5’

Conditions : Sun/Part sun

This variety of European box is almost a perfect shape without pruning.

It can stand alone or as a hedge. Blue leaves in spring are very large, almost round.

Buxus sempervirens ‘Varlegata’

Zone: 6-9

Size: 8’ x 4’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

The soft colored foliage of this box makes a striking addition as a hedge, specimen, or container plant.

Blue color of newer leaves fades to soft green.

Buxus sinica ‘Winter Beauty’

Zone: 5-9

Size: 4’ x 4’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

Green color throughout the season. Growth is compact. The spread equal to the height.

Buxus sinica ‘Wintergreen’

Zone: 5-9

Size: 5’ x 5’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

This hardy form is named for the green color it keeps all winter, when most varieties turn bronzy.

Nice as a small hedge.

Buxus sinica var. insularis ‘Justin Brouwers’

Zone: 5-9

Size: 3’ x 3’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

A good choice in cold weather climates. Nice round form hedging with strong branches

and dense leaves. Mature size is still unknown as it was only found in 1989, but won’t be huge.

You can see it in front of this nursery, where it’s been for years, untrimmed.

Buxus x ‘Denmark’

Zone: 7-9

Size: 20’ x 6’

Probably the fastest growing boxwood we offer at 8-12” per year. Deep green and

rounded leaves make a beautiful hedge or background plant. As a new addition

its mature height is unknown. And due to it’s large leaf size will always be rustic looking.

Buxus x ‘Green Mountain’

Zone: 5-9 ,   Size: 5’ x 4’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

Vigorous grower when young. Dense upright form with elegant small leaves.

Naturally cone shaped if left unsheared, terrific hedge.

Very hardy, a Korean cultivar based in Canada.

Buxus x ‘Green Velvet’

Zone: 5-9

Size: 3’ x 3’

Conditions: Sun/Part sun

Perfect for those who don’t relish pruning. These very obliging cultivars have

dark green leaves, and like all Korean cultivars short.
